Job Title:  Vice President of Total Rewards

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President of Total Rewards will report to the SVP of Human Resources/CHRO of Community Medical Centers. The successful candidate will have regular contact with other senior executives including the Senior Management Team, Finance Executives and the Directors of Human Resources at the System’s various facilities. Supervisory activities will consist of managing approximately six staff members - a Director of Compensation, Director of Benefits, Manager of HRIS, as well as a complementary staff of support personnel.

The VP of Total Rewards is responsible for advancing CMC’s Employer of Choice Strategy by developing innovative ways to enhance and engage the workforce in their compensation and benefits programs.  Secondary, but also of high importance is administration and compliance. The incumbents is also responsible for reviewing, directing and administering the employee benefit and compensation plans, leading the analysis of compensation policies and practices, examining statistical data and reports to develop recommendations for improvement, as well as evaluate benefit policies to ensure programs are current, competitive and in compliance with legal requirements.

In the coming year, the incumbent will be responsible for the following projects:

  • ·         Driving the implementation of Lawson Global HR and E-Performance.
  • ·         Driving consistency and market competitiveness around variable pay programs including but not limited to call back pay, on-call pay and shift differentials.
  • ·         Leading a Pension Choice project, which will involve offering all current employees a one-time choice to exit the Defined Benefit cash balance pension plan and move existing funds to other qualified plans or to a new contributory Defined Contribution (403b) plan.
  • ·         Managing the administration and delivery of Management Incentive Compensation per the Board approved plan.
  • ·         Developing a compensation manual, which describes CMC’s pay philosophy and processes.

Other position objectives include but are not limited to:

Ø  Monitoring executive compensation and benefits programs and providing related counsel.

Ø  Assuring that all compensation and benefit plans are in compliance with IRS guidelines.

Ø  Administering the CMC’s retirement plan programs and offering continuing education for employees in this area.

Ø  Administering CMC’s pension plan including 5500s, employee questions, termination payments.

Ø  Administration of CMC’s self-insured benefit plans including development of annual premiums and employee cost share.

Ø  Developing effective resources and communication tools for use by employees and management.

  • Ø  Managing employee and management merit processes and incentive compensation for leadership (directors and above).

Ø  Developing measurements of the success of the health system’s innovative employee health and wellness programs.

Ø  Continue to deliver and enhance the HR Scorecard so that this tool becomes a part of operational improvement.

Ø  Providing counsel to Generalist, Line Managers, and Talent Acquisition specialists regarding compensation issues, evaluating new positions, job bands, grade levels, job descriptions, promotions and transfers.

Ø  Building and sustaining collaborative relationships at multiple levels in the company, which includes working through complex disagreements and conflict to achieve resolution. Builds trust by involving others in design and decision making..

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·         A Bachelors degree is required.  A Masters degree is strongly preferred.

·         Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) strongly preferred.

·         A minimum ten years of experience in managing compensation, benefits and other benefits related programs is required.  A minimum of five years of experience in healthcare compensation.

·         Current or recent experience with California law.

·         Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

·         Strong contract negotiation skills as well as proven success managing vendor relationships.  Experience with change management.

·         Prefer experience in a non-union environment.
